Dear CCA Community,

Tomorrow is National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan civic holiday that celebrates our democracy and brings together schools and organizations across the country to register voters. To recognize this important day, CCA is holding a voter registration event tomorrow, Tuesday, September 20 from 11 am to 3 pm in front of Makers Cafe.

In 2020, 65.6% of eligible CCA students turned out to vote in the U.S. Presidential Election. As part of CCA’s Creative Citizens in Action initiative (CCA@CCA), the college has developed a 2022 Voting Action Plan to focus our community’s efforts to increase participation in the democratic process through voting. This is an exciting time on our unified campus—we’ve never been more connected as a community in our living and working spaces. We are committed to removing voting barriers for all of our eligible students, whether you live on campus or commute to CCA. 

Here are a few ways you can take action:

• I encourage you to stop by the table in front of Makers Cafe tomorrow (11 am–3 pm) and register to vote, update your voter registration, make a voting plan, or simply learn more about voting resources. Those who are not eligible to vote can still participate in the democratic process, creative citizenship, and activism. 
• Enter the Get Out the Vote Sticker Design Contest. As members of an art and design school community, we explore social and political issues creatively. This open call for sticker designs invites you to engage in our democratic process and remind others of their civic duty. Designs will be featured on the CCA@CCA website after the contest closes on October 2, and a selection of sticker designs will be printed and distributed on campus.
• Explore CCA’s Take Action Voting Resources page for more ideas such as volunteering as a poll worker or joining CCA's Voting Coalition.

Since 2018, CCA’s San Francisco campus has served our community and neighbors as an official polling place, and thanks to outreach by students, faculty, and staff across the college during the 2020 election cycle, CCA has been included in Washington Monthly’s 2022 Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll. To continue to support course efforts tied to democratic engagement, I am championing the work of Creative Citizens in Action (CCA@CCA) and am pleased to announce that five faculty members have received funding this fall to support course efforts tied to voting and democratic engagement.

For democracy to work for all of us, it must include us all. Please join me and the entire CCA community in making sure our voices—your voices—are heard.
