Join Photography in conversation with Rosie Marie Cromwell and Nelson Chan! This talk will be moderated by Allie Haeusslein, Director of Pier 24 Photography.

Rose Marie Cromwell (b. 1983, Sacramento, CA, based in Miami) is a photo and video artist, whose work explores the effects of globalization on the local and the tenuous space between the political and the spiritual. Her first book "El Libro Supremo de la Suerte" was published in 2018 by TIS books, and was awarded the Light Work Photo Book Prize named one of the "25 Best Photobooks of 2018" by TIME Magazine. In 2021 she published two books, "Eclipse" by TIS Books, and "A More Fluid Atmosphere" by Pomegranate Press. She has had solo exhibitions at Institute for Contemporary Art Miami, Diablo Rosso Gallery and Antitesis Gallery, both in Panama City, Panama, Institute 193 in Kentucky, and Filter Photo in Chicago. Her work has also been exhibited at The High Museum in Atlanta, Aperture Foundation in New York, PRIZM Art Fair in Miami, The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, and The Silver Eye Arts Center in Pittsburgh, among many others. Cromwell is recipient of a Fulbright Grant, A Getty Reportage grant, and was a Light Work AIR, and an AIR at Oolite Arts in Miami.


Nelson Chan was born in New Jersey to immigrant parents from Hong Kong and Taiwan and has spent most of his life between the States and Hong Kong. Nelson received his BFA and MFA from RISD and the Hartford Art School, respectively. He has been exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions such as the Museum of Chinese in America, New York, NY; Boston Center for the Arts, Boston, MA; The Print Center, Philadelphia, PA; Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany; and 798 Space, Beijing, China. His books are collected in the institutional libraries of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum, and MoMA. Along with his photography, book publishing is also a focus of his studio practice. He is co-founder of TIS books and is an Assistant Professor of Photography at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, CA.
