Humanities + Sciences: Writing + Literature, BA
About
Today's literary world needs writers who are also artists, like you.
Immerse Yourself in Your Art
Our Writing and Literature Program places you in a dynamic and interdisciplinary community of literary artists. Whether your focus is poetry, fiction, editorial, comics, or graduate studies, you’ll infuse your writing with creativity and experimentation. With focused, individualized attention and a vigorous, thought-provoking curriculum, you’ll learn to develop your writing into publishable works of art.
Explore Writing as a Craft
Working with a faculty of award-winning novelists, acclaimed memoirists, and published poets, you’ll learn how to translate your love of reading and writing into tangible written works. And you’ll do so while living in one of the most dynamic literary communities in the country -- the San Francisco Bay Area. You’ll also have the unique opportunity to study and collaborate with visual arts faculty and students, opening the door to incorporate animation, illustration, and design into your work.
Launch Your Career in Writing
We encourage you to intern with some of today’s most noteworthy literary institutions such as McSweeney’s, Zoetrope, City Light Bookstore, and others. You’ll also have the chance to contribute to our own undergraduate literary journal, Humble Pie, and join in our monthly literary reading series. We provide the real-world experiences that help pave the way for you to make an impact in your future as a writer and artist.
