Current Students, Faculty, and Staff may access the Omni and Model Shops after completing a tool safety orientation. Orientations are offered the first 8 weeks of the semester. All users must stop by the Tool Center to check out an Access Card when coming to use the Omni/Model Making Shop.
The Omni Shop is not reservable for individual class sessions. Faculty who would like to book a wood shop for instruction during individual class sessions should fill out THIS FORM in order to request a reservation in the adjacent Model Making Shop.
Due to academic program needs and the large volume of students that this space supports, CCA Shops are not available to alumni at this time.

The Omni Shop is a large, well-lit shop that contains many essential pieces of equipment for student use including saws, jointer/planer, sanders, drill presses, mills, routers, lathes, a vacuum forming machine, and workbenches. The Omni Shop is located adjacent to the Model Making Shop, and facing a Maker Yard.
All users are required to wear ANSI Z87+ rated safety glasses with side shields and closed toe shoes at all times in the Omni Shop. Long hair must be tied back, loose or dangling jewelry or lanyards must be removed, long sleeves should be rolled up. Hearing and dust protection is encouraged; headphones and earbuds are not allowed in the Omni Shop. Food and drink are allowed on the wooden work tables in the Omni Shop, and must always be covered.
ORIENTATION DATES
What to expect:
Access to the Omni shop requires a general wood shop orientation. Orientations will run through November 5th 2024. Please arrange to attend one of the open orientations listed below and on the calendar to the right of the screen. Please note: Reorientation is mandatory after two years. You will not be able to access this shop without an active orientation. If you are uncertain about your status, please check with a studio manager.
- HOURS:
- TBD. No orientations on weekends
Orientations take 2 hours and go over basic shop safety and policies as well as basic best practices for use on Band Saws, Sanders, Compound Miter Saw, Table Saw, and Drill Presses. Open orientations can accommodate up to 8 attendees at a time, with a minimum of 4 for a scheduled orientation to run. All attendees must arrive on time, stay for the full 2 hours, and wear closed toe shoes. Personal protective equipment is provided.
Orientation times, if they are available, will be posted at the Tool Center, and all orientations will be first come, first serve, with a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 attendees. All users are expected to take a complete, 2-hour orientation every two years in order to make sure everyone has the training needed to operate the equipment. After attending an orientation, you'll be able to check out the Model Shop Access Card from the Tool Center. Check out this card when you come to work in the shop so that studio staff know you have attended an orientation.
Please note: The Vacuum former, Planer/Joiner, and Lathes require separate orientations which can be arranged by contacting a studio manager.
